Phytokeratin

A plant protein hydrolysate from wheat, corn, and soy. In terms of amino acid composition and properties, it is similar to keratin, which is a key protein forming the hair shafts and the epidermis.

Hydrolyzed plant proteins have film-forming properties — they create a protective barrier on the surface of the scalp and hair shafts, thus preventing excessive water loss. They also have nourishing properties.

They have been shown to reduce irritation caused by surfactants used in skin cleansing products. Moreover, hydrolyzed proteins can penetrate the outer layer of the hair, where they act as a shield and help repair damage to hair shafts.
